BiographyDavid Hatfield is a respected leadership consultant and facilitator focusing on issues of masculinity, conflict transformation, creativity, rites of passage, and communication. He has 12 years experience with culturally diverse youth and adult populations including public and alternative schools, health care and social service agencies, prisons, wilderness-based rites of passage, and residential programs. As a specialist in male issues, David is a powerful guide in exploring notions of masculinity and a catalyst in illuminating and supporting new possibilities for both genders. He is an inspired instructor of improvisational a cappella singing. David is currently pursuing an M.Ed. in Social Ecology. David collaborates with a growing number of organizations as well as delivering his own programs as an independent facilitator. His engaging program design and facilitation is masterful and has been contracted nationally and internationally. He has 6 years experience with the Vancouver School Board as a youth and family worker and special needs teaching assistant. His 10 years in the B.C. and Alberta health care systems included positions in psychiatry, physiotherapy and rehabilitation medicine settings. In his music background he has worked as a touring percussionist, choral director, instructor of improvisational a cappella singing, bass player and singer. David has won numerous music scholarships including trainings at the Banff Centre for the Arts, and Simon Fraser University. He was a noted high-school basketball player in Calgary and is a life-long athlete. Pearson College, was a lead facilitator with Power of Hope, and was the Program Director of the SafeTeen Boys Program. He has twice co-led Pathways to Manhood, a wilderness-based rite of passage program for boys and their fathers in New Zealand. In 2000 he was featured on the T.V. program You, Me, and the Kids - "Raising Boys" episode. David has co-authored One small book, Eight Big Questions, about making change with Lester Pearson College, and co-authored the facilitation guide for the SWOVA Respectful Relationships in-school program. He facilitated Coaches Corner a group for fathers hosted by SHARE Family and Community Services. In his specialization on male issues he has worked with over 20,000 young and adult males.
