To say this past weekend participating in the Singing Soul with David and the group of us has impacted me is an understatement. It wasn't fireworks or bells ringing, but a deepening and diving in to a place I had been waiting for, for a long time, a part of myself I had thought was gone. Soulfulness was a word that came up during the weekend, and I think I found a whole new sense of what that might mean for me....a hint, a scent, a glimpse, a gentle brush with something inside that is vibrating with a new life. David, you offered so many structures for us to play within, it's hard to attribute what has affected me so profoundly to any one moment as it was a gradual awakening. However I think the invited and supported risk-taking inherent in vocal improv unlocked a permission to discover and express an unadorned part of myself. Could it be that that raw unmediated experience is cracking the facade of my habitual existence or subconscious beliefs? What I know is that I feel more alive, connected and at choice. The Singing Soul workshop has literally impacted my experience... right away I noticed I was responding differently with less reaction, pausing, and making other choices which were more compassionate, heartful and playful. The skill, compassion and gentle rigor that David brings to these workshops invites participation on all levels. Having once committed to being there, participants find a safe, stimulating and compelling playground to express themselves and stretch a little or a lot depending on their willingness. The magic that happened with everyone was truly astounding as people became composers, directors, soloists and everything else. David is a skillful guide, mentor, facilitator and maestro drawing out what is already in us, but we afraid we could never be or feel. The Singing Soul also results in a natural bonding, a community of one celebrating diversity and uniqueness and a desire to support one another. It is truly much more than 'singing' as the skills developed through vocal improvisation as led by David are truly needed in these times and have the potential to make positive change for individuals, communities and globally. With much gratitude...
