David Hatfield's Singing Soul workshop not only opened up a whole new way of experiencing music - of participating in music from the inside, in the place where it belongs to us all - but the experience also caused me to go straight home and write "Three Thousand Miles," which is my most-covered song, and on which much of my reputation has been built. David freed possibilities in me that I previously wasn't aware I possessed. A friend had enrolled me in The Singing Soul workshop as a gift, and I was terrified: my knee-jerk assessment was 'Vocal improv? I can't do that! I'm not a real singer!' As it turned out, participating in Singing Soul was not only one of the most joyful, playful, and freeing musical experiences I've ever had, it was also one of the safest. David is that rare and hoped-for guide who not only shows us to music as we've never been introduced before, but who also leads us to the music we never dared to believe was in ourselves. For anyone who's ever claimed they weren't a 'real singer,' Hatfield's Singing Soul is a life-changer.
